Pacific Dunes

The Pacific Dunes Course at Medowie, just south of Nelson Bay, provides an interesting challenge for golfers looking to play on a championship residential course, at a reasonable price.

Course Architect - James Wilcher
Length -  6411m / Par 72
Signature HoleHole 16, Par 4
Course Highlight - A Natural Sandy Base, Rolling Topography

Pacific Dunes is surrounded by some of the best scenery on the North Coast. The designers have built the course to incorporate some of the natural configurations that the area possesses, including lakes, sandy dunes, and natural bushland. The quality and standard of the course is what you would expect from a track rated at No.74 in the top 100 courses in Australia. The fairways are immaculate, and the greens are soft, true, and exciting. The bunkers are the key to this layout. To say there's alot is an understatement, and they are strategically positioned. Pacific Dunes has excellent facilities, including a driving range, restaurant, bar, and a friendly concierge bag drop off adding to the experience. The course is a professionally run facility, with well managed spacings, bookings, and friendly staff. The only negative (or more accurately, a deterrent) is the unforgiving nature of the layout. While exciting, and aesthetically pleasing, the fairways are narrow, and there is no room for error on tee shots. Thick deep native bush lines the route to the hole, there is copious amounts of water, and regular bunkers. At times, its near impossible to reach the greens without losing balls, unless you are long, straight and high, your regular 20 marker will struggle on this course. All in all, an excellent layout, and well worth the price, a mere $70 a round which comes in well under far worse courses rated.
