Massey Park

Massey Park is all about convenience. Its a small public course, located in Concord, in Sydney's Inner West overlooking Exile Bay. The setting is relaxing, basic, and provides the perfect opportunity for a quick round between chores on the weekend, when time can be precious.

Course Architect - N/A
Length – 4,566m / Par 66
Signature Hole - The Par 4, 1st - A slight dog leg left right with undulating fairway at the landing zone off the tee.
Course Highlight – A council course that offers a quick and easy round which is in very good shape.

Massey Park is a council owned track that has a lot of traffic, and as such, doesn't rank in the higher category of courses Bogey has reviewed. The course is adequate however, and is great for a casual hit on the weekend. At a tick over 4.5km, the course lacks length and hazards that normally restrict your average golfer ( Bogey included ) from pinging the greens, even on the majority of par 4's! The greens were in decent condition, although most of them verge on the boring and flat side of the scale when it comes to shape. The par3, 15th is the only exception. With dome like characteristics, sticking your tee shot on this green is near impossible for the average hacker. Bogey was advised by locals on the day he played, that this was an improvement on the old green. Complaints forcing the club to level it recently, making it a touch more forgiving. The greens were also quite slow and furry, and could have benefited from a close shave. Massey Park lacks any real variety, with the majority of the holes offering little in the way of a challenge, and even less in thought, even for the average player. The positive aspect to playing Massey Park is that it wont take up your whole Saturday. Approximately 3.5 hours after Bogey started his round; he was dusting off the boots and piling back into his car. For a council course with little resources, Massey Park is surprisingly enjoyable; its a great little course that's accessible to everyone.

Bogey's Rating

Greens5/10 - Average greens that were not really appealing, small and round but roll true and are in decent condition, although could have benefited from a once over with a mower.
Fairways5/10 – Most straight up and down, however those few with shape are actually well thought out.
Bunkers - 5/10 – These are in very good condition, however a bit more could be done in terms of placement to protect the greens given the holes are quite short. This might prevent golfers going for the green off the tee.
Customer Service - 7/10 – The staff in the pro shop were very friendly and more than happy to offer a bit of advice for someone playing there for the first time. They also took time out to ensure we were introduced to the others playing in our group.
Value - 6/10 - At $30 a round, this is very well priced given its location.

Overall Rating5.6/10 flags
