Magenta Shores

Magenta Shores is a championship links style course on the NSW central coast, about 5 minutes from the small coastal town, The Entrance. If you relish a challenge, and have some experience in the wind, this course is for you.

Course Architect – Ross Watson
Length – 6,305m / Par 72
Signature Hole – Par 5, 18th
Course Highlights – The 15th par 3 and the 18th par 5. True links course with rolling fairways and natural style bunkering.

Magenta Shores is a course designed under the Troon banner, and as such, the facilities are first rate, the customer service exceptional, and the course, is naturally well designed, and unique. Magenta Shores boasts self contained 5 star accommodation on course, restaurant, bar, and driving range that short clubs can only be hit however due to the location of the 1st. Magenta Shores sits within what were once the large dunes behind the main beach at The Entrance. The front nine is completely exposed to the prevailing winds. The course is a true links design, and each hole works its way through the low lying shrubs, wattles and brambles that grow naturally in this beach setting. The course is certainly picturesque, each hole hugs the shape of the dunes, as it winds its way parallel to the beach. The key to the front nine is controlling the ball in the wind, due to its location, it’s usually blowing, it just a question of how strong the wind will be. The fairways are quite narrow on most of the front nine, and seldom flat, with the natural contours of the land retained on the entire layout. The day Bogey played, a howling westerly battered the course making it near unplayable on the front nine, the back nine being slightly protected, but still challenging. Magenta is unique as it’s built within the sand belt, and retains all the natural features that the landscape offers. The greens are true, well designed, and super quick. The fairways are tight and generally in great shape, but often you may find the ball above or below your stance due to the natural shape of the dunes built under the fairways. And the bunkers are challenging, most of them are well positioned, and most of them in superb condition. The 18th is a highlight, well bunkered, over 550 in length, and is a majestic finishing hole. Overall, Magenta Shores is a great course, but it’s on the challenging side for the average golfer. Its built in a beautiful location, and the layout is in immaculate condition. For a weekend away, it’s well worth the trip.
