Hyatt Regency Coolum

The Hyatt Regency at Queensland's Coolum Beach is the home to the Australian PGA Championships, and a fine test of golf. Its long, its tight, and has plenty of water, the only thing missing was the sunshine.

Course Architect - Robert Trent Jones Junior the 2nd.
Length -6137 Metres.
Signature Hole - Par 3 - 11th.
Course Highlights - Manicured Fairways, Jungle Borders, and Tropical Climate.

Playing at the Hyatt is a good chance for your average golfer to see if they can stop a ball. Most of the greens here are small, super hard, and quite a few are surrounded by water, meaning that a miss is often costly, a score blowout, and more often than not, a wet ball. Hitting off the first gives the impression of space, with a wide open fairway, and thick rain forest up the right. Impressions at Coolum are deceiving however, the hole narrows dramatically, finishing to an island green with dense scrub at the back. Most of the holes are bordered with thick tropical bush, its dark and its thick, and its not recommended you venture in in summer. The fairways and layout are fantastic at Coolum, the grass is perfect, manicured, and the bunkers are magic. The facilities are also first rate. The course has undergone a recent redesign, as such some of the holes need some time to establish, but its a beautiful layout, with deep well maintained bunkers, and superb fairways, each hole a little different to the last. The only concern relating to the golf are the greens, which are as hard as pool tables. Despite a week of torrential rain, the balls bounced off the greens, even with lob wedges, and were un-markable even with tees and spikes, strictly for pros only.

Greens - Hard as a rock, fast, all slope to the water, almost impossible. - 5/10
Fairways - Immaculate, well manicured, and well maintained - 8/10
Bunkers - Well positioned and maintained - 8/10
Customer Service - Staff are helpful, friendly, and well spaced tee times. - 8/10

Overall Rating - 7 1/2 flags
